Unconventional AAC: Supporting Vocabulary Access for Swearing, Slang, & Sexuality

Let’s shift the mindset around explicit language and AAC! Learn how supporting access to explicit and taboo language/concepts impacts an AAC user’s autonomy in communication. Examples of target vocabulary for each life stage, along with AAC programming considerations and implementation strategies will be provided.

Disclaimer: This presentation will discuss explicit language, sexual health terminology, and abuse.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to…

1. Recommend 3 or more examples of taboo words/concepts to include in AAC systems/devices for each life-stage

2. Describe at least 2 strategies to support learning/use of taboo words/concepts in AAC implementation

3. Develop at least 2 rationales to support access to sexual health, intimacy, and/or relationship vocabulary for AAC users Zoom captioning will be available.
