DESCRIPTION:The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission is sponsoring a one-day event for Disability Pride Month. The conference will begin with a plenary session about disability rights under the Pennsylvania Human Relations Act. Then there will be concurrent sessions; one on bullying and harassment of youth with disabilities and one on the impact of war on people with disabilities. Then there will be lunch and a keynote address by Imani Barbarin\, an American writer\, and disability rights activist. The afternoon will have concurrent sessions: one on the criminal justice system and people with disabilities and another about mediation as a tool to resolve conflicts about disability accommodation requests.

Prior to her appointment\, she was Executive Director for the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities for the city of Philadelphia. Additionally\, Amy is a Council Member for the PA Developmental Disabilities Council and PA Statewide Independent Living Council. The title of her Presentation is “See Me\, See My Future”. As a community partner and person with lived experience in poverty\, addiction recovery and disability\, she knows full well what it is to be underestimated and unseen; yet she also knows what it looks like to keep going. Through this presentation she desires to lift the power of a strong vision and high expectations so that all can envision life on their terms and challenge us all to work collaboratively to reduce and eliminate barriers towards an accessible\, inclusive\, and equitable future.

DESCRIPTION:The need for an Offender Registry and Incident Reporting in Pennsylvania will be discussed. From statistics we know that people with Intellectual Disabilities and Autism are much more likely than the general public to be victims of abuse or violence. However few steps are taken to report incidents\, little is done to their perpetrators\, and little to no victim services are offered to the victims\, keeping the atrocities against them invisible and untold.
