SUMMARY:Benefits 101: How people with disabilities can build financial security without jeopardizing benefits
DESCRIPTION:Individuals with disabilities rely on a variety of government benefits for supports and services. It is important for individuals and those who support them to understand how earned and unearned income might impact benefits such as Medicare\, Medicaid\, Supplemental Security Income (SSI)\, Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI)\, Medicaid Waivers (Home and Community Based\, Community Living Waiver\, Person Family Driven Supports) and other subsidies. In order to make informed decisions about their financial futures it is important for individuals and those who support them to learn the basics of benefit information. For those receiving SSA benefits\, we realize that fear and misunderstanding may often keep people from working or making life changes. \nThis session is meant to help people to make decisions based on knowledge and not fear. Participants will hear from subject matter experts that will assist them in making informed decisions\, provide them with information to have greater control of their finances\, and help them to plan for a more financially secure future\, all while maintaining their critical heath care benefits. Presenters will provide an organized\, thematic view of the complex and important social programs. \nRSVP by January 21 to Kelly Gremba at 412-299-2231 or Merakey_AVS@merakey.org \nFree to participants from southwestern PA. $10/per person for participants from outside the region.
