THE OTHER SIDE OF INCLUSION Creating a More Welcoming Community for Individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD)
February 19 @ 9:30 am - 4:30 pm
A key role for families and human service professionals who support families is to create opportunities for community participation and success for their loved ones. Yet, many vulnerable people with disabilities remain isolated from the community and struggle with the social ramifications of poverty, unemployment, difficulty with housing and transportation. It is clear that traditional methods have not brought many successes to include people with disabilities. This interactive event will explore this challenge and examine ways and means for greater community success for people with disabilities. We will look at ways and means to build a more welcoming community. Clear strategies will be outlined and practiced as we explore a more macro perspective on the notion of community building.
