The PA Developmental Disabilities Council is proud to announce the availability of a two part video entitled Breaking Barriers (Rompiendo Barreras).   Breaking Barriers is an intimate dialogue about disabilities as it affects Latino families.  The videos are available in both Spanish and English.  The Breaking Barriers video was produced through a collaborative project of the Disability Rights Network of Pennsylvania and Manos Unidas, and was supported by a grant from the PA Developmental Disabilities Council.

In Part One, the Breaking Barriers video participants discuss the barriers encountered in trying to find appropriate services for children with disabilities, the stigma associated with having a disability and the language associated with it, and the establishment of the support group in the Gettysburg County area called Tocando Puertas (Knocking on Doors).  Resources in Adams County are identified for individuals in need of help or who want more information.

In Part Two of Breaking Barriers (Rompiendo Barreras) the video participants discuss in greater depth the challenges they have faced in addressing their needs and the needs of their family, and how they have been able to overcome the barriers. This discussion touches more intimately upon the lived stories of adversity, acceptance and triumph.
