Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council

2010 Listening Tour

The Pennsylvania Developmental Disabilities Council (PADDC) is a federally funded body composed of people with disabilities, advocates & stakeholders drawn from the disability community.  The PADDC is conducting listening tours as part of a planning process for 2012 - 2016 that has consisted of retreats, stakeholder solicitations, and reviews of the work of other disability councils.

What follows is a list of our draft ideas for our 2012-2016 plan.  They are based on a review of our past 15 years work, a series of round tables and retreats, input from disability groups and stakeholders, and our knowledge of our unique skills and capacities.  Please review them in advance of your attendance and come prepared to offer us feedback and your thoughts on what is most important to the disability community and other ideas we may have missed.

Education

  • Work on coalition building and cultural change in schools
  • What's missing to do inclusion right? (research)
  • Expanding parent leadership activities

Inclusion

  • Community accessibility
  • Building Inclusive Communities projects
  • Outcomes of inclusion work

Stigma

  • Implement recommendations of stigma grant from current plan

Inclusive  Child Care

  • Universal Design
  • State ICC representation

Grassroots Advocacy

  • Continue statewide program
  • Enhanced coordination and TA efforts for advocacy activities

Transportation

  • Possible recommendations from employment and transportation round table

Employment

  • Characteristics of successful employers (research)
  • Change activities arising from above research

Transition

  • Systemic activities arising from Three Sisters Transition Summit

Housing

  • Replication and expansion of our Educating Landlords work

Health

  • Monitor possibilities arising from Health Care "Reform"
  • Dual Diagnosis project recommendations
  • Conversations with Department of Health around disability values

Quality

  • Policy Information Exchange
